I know how you feel man. Where I am right now it's too hard to get the running. I've just been weigh training hard and heavy for the past 5 months. Next month though I'm getting back into FF type shape because I've got to be ready for TACP. Luckily I've got a year to train from next month. Just keep your head up dude. Push yourself and you will notice changes in your run times and pushups.
Will do! Pushups weren't too far off of what I normally do, I was just hoping to go higher. Right now I'm doing 50pullups throughout the day, I'm about to start doing 50pushups an hour and 50situps an hour, just kinda broken apart and see how that goes over time. As far as runnings concerned, its a matter of stride and pace. Right now I have a short stride and 8min/mile pace. I have the legs to stride, I just haven't been. I'm not a runner, I'm a swimmer so its definitely taking a toll on my shins. But even after a week I noticed a difference in my cardio, where I'm not ready to kill myself past 2miles. How long is it that you have to be in a certain job before you can crosstrain?
Well, I am a first term airmen on a 6 year enlistment. My normal cross training window comes at 4 years, but for things like CC, PJs, TACP, SERE, and Aircrew it is 3 years. I have talked with a SMSgt in TACP here in Baghdad and he told me that I didn't have to wait, but it's hard to get in unless you wait until your window. I see that as prep time though. I've got about 30 more days here in Iraq then I'm headed home for 3 weeks of leave. When I get back it's all focus time from that point on. I ran 5 miles here about 2 months ago. Since then I have run 2 miles on 2 seperate occasions. It's just so hard for me to run out here because after about 10 minutes you've breathed in so much damn dust/dirt you're coughing for two days. I tink when I get back I'm going to start off with like 3 miles in the morning. A 1.5 in the afternoon, and another 1.5 before I go to bed. I'll rotate that out and maybe once or twice a week starting out ruck like 5 miles. I just want to get used to rucking. Since I've been out here my bench press had went from 215 to 260. Squats and deadlifts have increased too just not sure exactly what. I've bulked up a few pounds. Went from 175 to around 183. Hopefully when I get back I'll cut it back down. My normal running weight has always been about 170. So it will be different lugging around an extra 15 or so pounds. Let me know how you are doing. Update me. A good way to increase your 3 would be to run the first half at normal 1.5 time then stager out the rest. That is what I used to do. Although I'm not terribly fast my 5k time used to be like 22-23 mins.
will do bro. hows the sandbox? I've never really ran since high school. I'm 22, so I haven't ran more than a mile in 4 years. Back then I also weighed 160lbs and I'm now 210lbs and only ran the 100 and 200. So its quite a change for me. I'm hoping to get down to 190lbs before basic. Keep up the progress bud, it'll all come. Sounds like overall were in the same position, I've just got less time! That 5k time isn't bad!! I'm hoping to be in that range soon. I know rucking is going to be a huge weakness for me, so i'm looking for alice packs online to use.
Well, I've started over as of today. I went out of town w/family for 3 weeks and also had a death in the family and haven't had much time to train. A trainer at my gym(former Marine) and I are doing this together.
My scores for ABADDON-Day 1.
-225 bench 4x5 (struggled on the last set something serious)
-150lbs row 4x5(didn't struggle at all, oddly I don't do row often)
-10lbs weighted pullups(here's where I struggled quite a bit, I started with 25lbs on the first set and at the second I could NOT perform any, so I dropped the weight to 10lbs, and will just have to improve as time goes on).
5min run and bike was a good warm up for the mile run, which was 6min.
Great first day, its nice to have someone to do these with and stand on top of you.
Thanks again Dan for creating this train up guide, I take the PAST test in 2 weeks and will apparently be having my contract "re-written" job wise and a slot will be given for the Schoolhouse.
"Diesel" is today...I haven't really been online due to my crazy schedule lately. I ended up not getting the contracts I wanted due to me failing my depth perception exam @MEPS. All CCT classes are booked so it was either SERE or PJ. I took PJ. The swims are helping but I'm adding in extra swimming/diving as well. I just joined a local running club because that and pullups is where I struggle most. These work outs are great, thanks again Dan for putting them up. I have noticed that we don't do a lot of legs and Charlemagne killed me something serious.
I did the Army PFT today, 2mile was 13:01, pushups were 95, situps were 91, pullups were 13. I have actually gained weight doing this, and I definitely need to go the opposite direction. I'm standing at 210lbs and I think I need to be around the 185 range.
Anyways, thanks again Dan this is a great step in the right direction.
My running has gone up significantly, as well as my leg strength. I believe these have helped me GREATLY on the mental side of things. Every single day is a struggle. I officially hate turkish get ups...just sayin
My hearts jumping out of my chest. I hope that was the point, because it worked. Time sucked, I felt like puking half way through, which might have been due to what I ate for breakfast. But it was done on a treadmil and the "run" was a 6min/mile pace. Completed in 15min, and my friend completed it in 14min. I know the times suck, I'm really pissed at myself.
Completed all 10 underwaters in just shy of 20min.
14laps in 20min with a few interruptions, I feel like I could have gotten another 3 atleast.
3min egg beater. that really takes it out of you. And for the heck of it, I did "drown proofing"(bobbing) just as something extra. I didn't have any rope for knot tying.
