1. Squat- work up to 1 rep max.
  2. Bench press- work up to 1 rep max.
  3. Rep tests- test each lift about about 80% of 1rm.  If you get 8 or more, you will be assigning that lift to volume mode.  If you get 7 or less, that lift is assigned to strength mode.
